Because the KDM package didn't work for me right now i removed "splash"
from the " /boot/grub/menu.lst" and did a updat-grub.
This works fine but only one time . The next time i logged in a noticed
that the grub/menu.lst had restored itself.

Ok... you don't need to recompile your kernel.. I did this job for you!
:-D I recompiled the kernel just adjusting the features to make my
external HDD works fine. The other features are default in Ubuntu.

sure why you added --firefox in there since it is a system wide setting.

No this bug seems to be fixed in Fiesty / Rhythmbox 0.10.0 release. I
can edit and save Mp3 metadata in UTF-8. Cheers for the bugfix.

I have tried this, and although it makes transfers unbearably slow, it
seems to stop the usbdisk from hanging up.
recompiling kernel looks a bit scary..
are there any ideas for a solution through userspace setting
Agreed my patch is probably more of a bug than a benefit, but hopefully
we can come up with something that does the job effectively and
efficiently. Initially I got most of the contents from an example
jabberd init script I found on the web. dbus does something similar.

Thank you for your bug report. Are you using desktop effects ? Only
menus are missing or the whole panel (the two bars on the top and at the
bottom ) ?
Instead of rebooting try the following : press ALT + F2 and type gnome-
panel then hit enter. If your panels are missing they should come back.

I downloaded a *.rar File (not splited) and wanted to unrar it.
I knew the password, but when I typed the password, it seems, that the password
is wrong,
After a few attemps I tried it without the gui (Terminal: unrar x *.rar) and it
worked.
During a normal upgrade, your /etc/fstab is converted automatically to
use UUID. Maybe it broke for you since you had a pretty customized
setup. Please reopen the bug if you can reproduce with a normal
installation and a normal upgrade.
And, usually you should not confirm your own bugs :)
