I found the value of the UUID given by mkswap was incorrect. Post reboot
the vol_id value differed to the mkswap value.
After correcting /etc/fstab, /etc/initramfs/config.d/resume ,
boot/grub/menu.lst to the vol_id value then restarting udev, updating
initramfs and another reboot, I can resume

In response to my own submission, the submitted backport actually works
perfectly in the -16 kernel, as well as the -15 kernel.
Apparently the ABI did not change enough to break anything. However, I still
think it would be best to get the -16 version
back-ported if possible.

The --stdin-stdout option is broken, both in the client (htc) and the
server (hts). When used, the program writes its output to stdin instead
of stdout. This breaks anything calling htc or hts with --stdin-stdout,
unless stdin happens to be

OK. I went looking around, and found bug 64814 with a similar symptom,
but with apt.
In there there was a suggestion to delete /var/lib/apt/extended_states.
I then decided to to the same with the aptitude equivalent --
/var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates. Deleted it, run aptidude update aptitude
