I'm having the same problem with a mobility radeon 9200 and the rc
livecd. A sudo modprobe -r radeon && sudo modprobe radeon fixes it, and
after an X restart I get 3d acceleration. For some reason the agpgart
module is loaded after the radeon module in the livecd, even though
lsmod correctly lists

Usplash is fine on boot up. I have tried the workaround of adding
vga=791 to the end of the line for my kernel (2.6.22-14 generic) which
is a method which has worked since 7.04.
The Dutch translation is confusing in the same way. Apparently it is the
size of the new partition, not the new size of the existing partition,
but I wasted an hour because I interpreted it the other way.

This has "gone away". There have been a few restricted-modules releases
recently (2.6.22.4-14.8 being the current one as I write), so I guess it
got resolved by one of them.
