Gutsy appears to have fixed all of these problems, or at least all of
the global settings. Did they do this by making the system choose based
on locale or did they just change the default to letter?
For me it's fixed, so perhaps this gets to be closed soon.

I would like to add this is also a problem for me, but it seems to be
cosmetic. Logon's etc work, but there is no indication that the

I am getting the same error. I am/was running the latest version of
gutsy everything up until this morning. I am running an intel box with

two panels vertically and it seems to me that once enough windows are
open the re-drawing of the window icons on the vertical panel causes an
infinite loop of some kind (deadlock??) with the mallocs growing mem usage.

Apparently the hard-coded frequency tables for SONOMA CPUs were never
included in main kernel (from kernel.org). Hence it was probably a patch
from Ubuntu. Why was it dropped in 2.6.22? There is at least one user
for who it worked better with the patch :)

I can confirm both that this bug persists in lame 3.96.1-2ubuntu1 under
Feisty (as a matter of fact, on my system lame grinds to a virtual halt)
and is fixed in 3.97-0.0 which I grabbed and backported from Gutsy.
Consequently, the bug should disappear with the upcoming final release
of Gutsy.

With 2.6.20-16-server everything works ok.
With 2.6.22-14-server and ndiswrapper 1.43-1ubuntu2 kernel oops (see below).
With 2.6.22-14-server and ndiswrapper 1.49rc1 and 1.49rc3 the wifi dongle can't
connect to the AP, so i don't know if once connect it will oops again.

same for me! flash crashes my browser very frequently. It usually
happens if flash is active in more than one Tab or Window. Opening

It is a dpi problem. Apparently it has something to do with compiz
starting before gdm ( or the other way around). drvista on the ubuntu
forums managed to find a fix though. It worked for me at least.
In /etc/gdm/gdm.conf change:

Okay, I don't know how I couldn't notice, but I think I screwed up my system
configuration... Every Gnome app cannot display by default the euro(€) sign,
including firefox, pidgin, tomboy...
KDE progs are not behaving this way.

I'm using today's (2007-10-16) version of Ubuntu on a Mac Book Pro 17 2.16GHz
and sound works when coming from the headphones (line out channel, I guess) but
not from the speaker. I didn't try the patch above considering I prefer no

I have this bug in Gutsy (and have had it for ages). If the connection
dies (which also happens when resuming from suspend) Kmail cannot
reconnect properly. Sometimes I can get Kmail to reconnect and display a
subfolder on the IMAP server, but still cannot get it to display the top
level INBOX.
