I have a Compaq laptop with Athlon 64 X2 Turion processor, 1 GB RAM,
nVidia graphics card. While installing 7.04 (Feisty), I encountered
errors in the CD startup. The recommended solution for this (in the
Ubuntu forums) was to disable acpi
I had problems mounting USB drives from nautilus, and so I did the
following from my home directory:
$sudo mv /usr/share/hal hal
$sudo mv /etc/hal etc-hal
$sudo apt-get remove --purge hal
$sudo apt-get install --reinstall hal
This seemed to uninstall ubuntu-desktop and kubuntu-desktop and

within the animation plugin code. And it's apparently not an infinite
loop, since the cpu usage remains minimal.
So, reading GhePeU's comment, I guess the problem will go away with

I don't know what I did, but on Friday, I had both the projector and the

You are right about Ubuntu using the UUIDs to mount by default. What
happened in my case is that the drive was installed later (after Ubuntu
was already installed)... so i simply formatted it (ext3) and mounted it
myself, using the /dev/sdXn style partition reference.

i still get the strange turned off twice behaviour, but the initial issue is
OK since ubuntu9 version of the intel driver.

I figured out a work-around to get by for now...
If I make a launcher and put it in /usr/share/gnome/autostart , it will

Furthermore you cannot setup your second monitor using displayconfig-gtk
since the intel driver does not support the configurtaion method used by
displayconfig-gtk. You have to use the command line tool xrandr, see

Not sure if this helps, I am able to get Ubuntu, Gusty, to work on my HP
DV6000 (DV6409wm). I had to set the flags noapic and nolapic during the
initial boot from the live CD to get it to boot up. But from there it
works fine. The Nvidia and Broadcom drivers load up as Restricted
Drivers. I do no
