Nevertheless, Adept always tell me the a 'new version is available', and
prompts me for a 'version upgrade'.

For what it's worth, I don't see this problem with the current driver
from Gutsy, 2:2.1.1-0ubuntu9.
I suspect it was caused by using a current xrandr binary, but with an
older version of the libXRandR.so library in /usr/local. I read
somewhere that the library API changed in some incompatible
I get this bug in Gusty too, so the video content doesn't move with the
window.
So I play a video in Totem 2.20.0, and if a move a wobbly window or
roatate the cube or any other affect the video stays in the same place
on the screen but the window moves. Once I have stopped moving the video
I can confirm this trouble with Gutsy 7.10. I haven´t this trouble with
Feisty 7.04. I can´t shutdow my system because my system hangs. I have a
HP nx9030 with a Intel Centrino 1.6 Ghz and a Intel Graphic Card.

Yes, it is a bug that the ghost screen is used for determining screen
size. To disable this in xorg.conf, see III.4. Disabling outputs in

For what it's worth, I have a Intel i915 on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo
Si-1520 laptop, and TV-out works quite well using the xrandr command to
enable the TV output, set the mode and set the TV mode, after I plug
in an S-video cable.

It randomly happens when I start gnome, and ONLY since I upgraded to Ubuntu
7.10.
The Desktop Manager prompts me for user/pass, I give it them, then it launches
the Desktop.
About 80% of times the splash progress bar (loading this and that) doesnt
appear, then I get
I eventually came back to the pre-upgrade xorg.conf file. My 1400x1050 screen
resolution is now fine (although refresh freq could go to 75Hz).
Proprietary ATI drivers still enabled.
I hope this will help to mend the ugly regression that came in with the
Gutsy release.

The new HPLIP 2.7.10 is now released by HP (http://hplip.sf.net/) and in
this version the tool hp-setup downloads the firmware automatically from
the internet as described in the presentations of the Printing Summit.
But note that this version of HPLIP got only finished after Gutsy was
finished.

the problem with missing widescreen resolutions might be solved by
ticking widescreen in the window where you select your display
model(eg generic panel)... Ticking this box makes the widescreen
resolutions show up...

I turned off the edge snapping for wobbly cause it was gluey and often
difficult to get away from edges... also noticed it jumping up under the

I installed Gutsy AMD64 on my laptop and lost a lot of time identifying
the disk I wanted to install it to.
I have partitioned my laptop harddisk into several equally sized
partitions, to try different distributions on. In live CD mode,
Murmurd searches around a bit for a .ini file. If it can't find one, it
goes with it's builtin defaults. There's a sample one distributed in the
scripts/ directory.
If you put that file into /etc, you can set the logpath, database path,
pidpath etc from that file.

The problem is that grabs get lost when XCompositeUnredirectWindow is
called. We can either prevent this by explicitely excluding gnome-
screensaver or by rewriting the code so that compiz does not redirect by
default but checks first if the window is a fullscreen window and on top
of the stack.

The corruption problems that I initially experienced went away until
after this morning's update. I can't even boot into my system because of
bus errors on the ttys. Could the libc6 update cause this? I'm not sure

just like with my previous attempts, Shift+F2 starts a new file in mc

takes to load, from Loading Grub to Logging On, it is about 2:30 mins, BUT I
need to insert two times LuksCrypt Passphrase (sum up ~ 30 Chars), so this at

Booting into 2.6.22-14-generic gives the Kernel Panic - not syncing:

Booting into 2.6.20-15-generic works fine.
After running 'sudo update-initramfs -k all -u', booting into
