alsamixer or gnome-volume-control and then reboot or restart alsa. This

Setting to confirmed for now as it is a known issue, but appears newest
nvidia driver provides much better support. Will do more testing before
setting to Fixed.

I discovered that I was also seeing all kinds of DCOP issues while
performing other tasks. I rebooted the system, and that seems to have
fixed everything. So probably the bad FF behaviour I reported was a
result of something else having gone awry.
