battery the screen dims to the point that it is almost impossible to
see. I checked System>Preferences>Power Management and went to the On

Just installed 8.04 beta and installed all patches as of 3/23/08. When
opening gdmsetup for the first time it takes ~60 - 90 seconds to open
and I get the following error messages in syslog:

The Places menu shows the partition names wrongly though Nautilus /media
folder shows the names right. Also when these partitions are viewed via
Nautilus say "/media/Shared", the names changes from "Shared" to "35.6GB
MEDIA DRIVE". The screen shot explains things better.

Actually it happens either way. I also noticed that the files
referenced are located in ~/.openoffice.org2/user/basic/Standard.
Also I have attached a screenshot of the about dialog box that might be
related. Maybe openoffice wasnt upgraded properly, IDK.

I too have problems running gdmsetup. When I run it, there is constant
disk activity, but no gdmsetup shows up. Killing gdmsetup does not seem
to stop the disk activity. Only rebooting does.
The hard disk activity sounds so intense that I didn't dare wait 5
minutes or whatever for gdmsetup to show
Already released versions of Ubuntu only get security updates. To get
the new version of OpenOffice will require upgrading to Ubuntu 8.04 when
it is released next month, it will have OpenOffice 2.4.0.

additionally this error is very annoying for those of us that store
things in our music libraries that are in codecs that are unsupportable
at the moment. it's the right place to keep those music files, but the
codec search is never going to succeed. at the least there ought to be a
way to suppress
