This issue has been resolved in the upstream CVS and will be included in
the upcoming 3.4 release. The problem is that XaoS's built-in text
handling (the xprint function in grlib.c) only supports Latin-1 and
Latin-2 encodings. On modern Linux systems (and Mac OS X), gettext

The current xorg.conf file does not allow things like right-click or
drag-and-drop using pens or stylus only. This patch enables long-click
(=.75s) in a fashion similar to tap-and-hold but in this case
generating a right-click response.

Output of lshw so you can see what video card I have and anything else
you want to know. It's an nvidia NV25GL [Quadro4 900 XGL], and I am
using a restricted driver that was installed automatically by ubuntu.
