Just to chime in, I find this an annoying regression also.
I noticed using Pidgin in Hardy that I wasn't getting any notifications
of new message alerts in my bottom panel and was in fact being quite the
snob without realizing it.
I've found I need to go into plugins and enable the message

1. the mencoder solution does indeed work. I guess the solution I would
like for this bug report is to have mencoder as a 'suggested' or
'recommended' package. I have no idea how package maintainers go about
deciding which packages are suggested or recommended, so I will leave it

side effect of loading alsa-s{ink,ource} before hal-detect. The reason

I tried setting up a new printer, R220-test, with the URI as suggested.
Otherwise, same driver, etc. It worked, I made it default, printed

libdvdcss is a legally questionable package - e.g. in regions with a DMCA style
law, circumventing copy protection devices such as CSS is illegal.
At best, the player should produce an error that the disc is encrypted and the
user needs to obtain some licenced software to play it back.

Confirming problem on my installation of 8.04! It is not possible to
finish installation, crashes in cca 90% with message Command 'grub-
install (hd0)'. This is a critical error (not exactly the same, Im
translating message from my language to EN).
I suppose to raise importance of bug from Medium
I'm not sure what else to call it other than main hardware detection.
The first thing it tries to detect is network hardware, which fails.
Then a bit later, it tries to detect all the hardware, which results in
the system hanging.
There is no network connection at all when booting from the Hardy
The issue is resolved for me in version 1.11 of transmisson, not to
mention an improved interface.

currently broken Duplex printing. And as Ricoh printers are large-scale
