I just tried the distribution release. I was hoping this "bug" would be
fixed by now, but it I am still getting the same problem with the 'Live'
installation. I have tried the alternate CD but am having a problem with
that too. After I select 'Install' it won't go any further than a blank
screen.

I just install Hardy and stumbled upon this bug.
I just remember that a long time ago, I reported a similar bug (see bug #23435)
in Hoary Hedgehog (yes, that's old!) and it was fixed back then.

I am having problems with accessing IDE devices too. I have filed
bug#222322. I suspect there may be some correlation with the problem you
are seeing here, and with the problem I have encountered.
Just a suggestion. Do you have exactly two IDE devices? If so, make your
hard drive the master on you
Update: Just going into and out of suspend from the UI without closing
the laptop lid works fine. It looks like the problem is that closing
the laptop lid now also turns off the display, which I've never been

I am also having problems with not being able to access devices. I have

experience is that I installed Hardy on hdc the master disk on my
secondary controller. Hardy kind of interpreted it as sda. But I got

The EWMH doesn't actually say that the switcher decides the workspace

I just updated to ubuntu 8.04, and started getting the same errors when
I try to run MATLAB.
I tried all the suggestions above, and none worked except for

I insert a CD and i select burn data cd from the prompt - which I think
is from HAL.
It then somehow runs k3b under root and ask to which i get:

It is not recommended to run K3b under the root user account. This introduces
unnecessary security risks

I've just experienced this bug after upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy, but
the effects were somewhat different. I emptied the trash using the
trash applet, but the applet icon still showed it as full. I opened the
trash directory, but it was empty. After reading this bug report, I

into upgrade it gets an error. says to run apt-get install -f. Here is

interface and behavior Rythmbox could exily fix in their own code and

Same here. Camorama fails with 'could not connect' error. Testing on a
Dell 1420 laptop with integrated webcam (apparent manufacturer is
OmniVision), running ubuntu 7.10.
