The login-count bug mentioned in comment 1 is also a symptom of the
early-priv-dropping problem. When pam_mount decreases the login count to
0, it tries to remove the /var/run/pam_mount/$USER file, but can't as it
doesn't have the privileges to do so. This results in a stale login
count file.

This is the log of the battery running out when I am hardly using it (to
keep the CPU at 600MHz). I still get no warnings or anything and the
machine just dies.
This makes me think that something has changed since the RC. The RC gave
me several warnings before Hibernating. I doubt that my battery

I found a solution, for me: see bug 154596 for details.
The procedure there, of adding "AddARGBGLXVisuals" to xorg.conf fixes
the problem for me.

I can't reproduce this problem on Ubuntu 8.04. You didn't mention what
version you are using so can you reproduce this problem on Ubuntu 8.04?
If so are you doing anything else special (other documents open, etc)
when you see the problem occur?
Thanks,
Chris

I ran into the same issue on my upgrade.
I don't understand why this was closed just because it's not related to
gcc-3.3 base. it's a bug in Ubuntu that needs to be fixed, and this is
where -Ubuntu's- problem reporting system brings us to report the issue.
It shouldn't matter if the bug is in pac
I should add that I upgraded using the 'Update manager' which downloaded
the packages and installed them automatically. I did not upgrade from
CD. I was running 7.10 and upgraded to 8.04.

Just to expand the use case of this bug report:
I (using Hardy) like having the backlight dim on idle. That means that I have
the backlight at 100% and, after a period of no use, my backlight dims. That is
great. When I move the mouse it increases the backlight to 80% and I have to
increase it w
Just to add my notes on this:
I have tried to time how long it takes for the backlight to be dimmed
and it seems to vary for no good reason. I timed it at 30 secs and 1 min
(stopwatch) and then another time it just didn't dim.
I'll try and isolate it a bit better and attach the verbose log

I am planning to use the latest 8.04...
