Ran into the same problem.
Upgraded from an up-to-date Gutsy to Hardy yesterday. No alpha, beta or
RC versions of Hardy installed. Hardy distribution from the
ubuntu.mirrors.skynet.be mirror. Numpad broken after the upgrade.
Same solution: switch allow to control pointer using keyboard to off.
After a recent 'update-manager -c' to Hardy, I'm now getting the same
error.
I'm running policykit v0.7 btw.

I have the same system and get the same error after a first time
installation of 8.04, the only difference is i'm trying to install
ubuntu, not kubuntu. On this laptop livecd works, but hard dick
installation is not working.

Kubuntu 8.04 (with KDE) installation does not install grub. SQUASHFS
I tried to follow the instructions but my debugging fu are not so good. As soon
as I start kopete from gdb it seems to detach and gdb reports a program exited
normally. I don't know if it's forking or what, but gdb simply loses it.

I just tried to repeat this on Hardy and I can't - however I think this
is because it has been avoided rather than fixed.
There don't seem to be any tooltips on the top level menus that have children
for me anymore hence I can't trigger this.

After upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy the trackpad on my laptop is behaving
erratically.

1. Place finger on trackpad - cursor moves to position on screen that matches
where finger placed. E.g Put finger in top middle of trackpad and

When you launch ristretto, and choose open from its menu, you can browse
through folders searching for image files, but ristretto can't open them

worked great with Amarok in Gutsy but since Hardy it causes kded to crash.
Protox's advice didn't work for me and when crashed, even if I try to restart
it I can't use the MediaDirect nor the volume buttons (which work

Same behaviour here on amd64 architecture. It searches for

I am getting the same problem. I do not use any flash based storage. I
have installed the hardy release the live cd boots up fine, i install,
restart log in then I'm confronted with the same problem of the original
bug post.
I did a clean install with a burned ISO of final release of hardy, not

using the mouse wheel , i think it should be improved.
