Patch is against latest acpi tree, I have attached a patch which should
work against 2.4.24 (which Hardy uses).

Suspend-to-ram does not work out-of-the-box on Hardy. (At least not with
the binary driver.)
With a fresh install of Kubuntu 8.04, the screen would not come back up
after a suspend.
For reference, I've seen the following suggestions. It should
fixed upstream.

It's an easy fix, just:
-- right click for a context menu, then Show Menubar
-- select Edit-Keyboard Shortcuts
-- remap any sequences that you need passed to terminal apps ( backspace
disables a shortcut )
-- hide

Does it also lock up if changing the resolution using the xrandr command line
utility?

From the version, I see you are running Feisty. The version of the
Python policy server in the regular release does not, in fact, have a
config file and, IIRC, rejects on permerror. I substantially improved
one is available in feisty-backports. That's the one that supports the
config file.
