There's nothing wrong with a swap partition on the RAID. What I was
suggesting was maybe you were using SWAP on a hard partition which
perhaps overlapped with part of the physical volumes for the RAID. I'm
not sure, but clearly it sounds like you have corruption showing up on
your LVM device.

many months. Every month or so, I pull in updates to 7.10 using the
built in update Manager and the last update broke both swap
functionality and hibernate functionality.

The current kernel no longer freezes the machine hard, though the
process itself freezes (leaving a QEMU/KVM [Stopped] window that is
not responsive) and can't be killed via [ctrl]-[c]. It also generates a
