No permanent fix for this ? For me it was impossible to use hardy. And
I'm not new to linux. Newcomers wouldn't like these constant freezes. I
know I don't. And with the fix I use I can't get my ati-card working.
Is it anyone who knows if that will be the case during the whole hardy-time?

I confirm that both cores work with newest kernel 2.6.26.
I found the following instructions to "ubuntu" the kernel sources (as root):
You need the compiler stuff (aptitude install build-essential?) and make-kpkg:
Get linux-2.6.26.tar.bz2, e.g. from www.kernel.org
# tar xvfj linux-2.6.26.tar.bz2
Since recommends are installed by default in Intrepid, the point about
recommends/depends is moot. su-to-root is the right way to solve the
problem. Nothing more to do. Also, not SRU worthy for Hardy because
there is an easy fix.

whoops! spoke too soon. I'm actually using vmware server 2 beta. The

1. clean xorg.conf except nvidias recommended settings
2. sudo nvidia-xconfig > new xorg.conf attached
3. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace for X-restart > X broken and "The greeter
application" messagebox comes
3. tty is then broken for me Ctrl-Alt-F1 > F6
4. Restart in recovery mode and uncomm
