I had the same problem. Right-clicking on the embedded mplayer plugin
area and selecting "configure" brings up a dialog box. One of the
options here is "Pause video when hidden", which is enabled by default
and seems to apply to audio-only as well as video. Disabling this option
solved the problem
Thanks to Dave for all his efforts. I'm still struggling with a
'looping' problem on resume. Sometimes on resume I begin to immediately
RE-suspend. Any ideas?

Also, I did a bit more testing and found that when I ran 'sudo

I don't think this is a viable long-term solution, because grub-install
after installation won't do the same thing. Thus the task on grub should
definitely stay open. However, it may help in the short term.

After a few reboots, I noticed that I am still getting an occasional
kernel panic. If you are getting a kernel panic with 2.6.26-5.14, try
rebooting your client a few times. This did not work with 2.6.26-3 and
2.6.26-4 for me.

I've enabled apport in the file /etc/default/apport and followed the

I really don't think that the installer is the right place for verbose
explanations of how to use Unix. Most people would much prefer to get
through the installer as quickly as possible and get on with using the
resulting system.
