Is the signal weaker on the first card than the second. The logged data
looks like what happens when the signal is marginal. Unfortunately,
mac80211 is not really good at reconnecting when an interface loses the
AP.

Well, i came from Bug #202959 to this one since it's the upgrade problem
and not a memory problem.
I did terminate the stalled processes multiple times from other shells,
reconfigured and rebooted.
I might add, that the localedef works again after the reboot and new
run's of apt-get update and up

I just understood the point of this: "Back" and "Forward" here mean "Scroll Up"
and "Scroll Down". But this is very confusing, since "Back" and "Forward" in a
file browser ususally mean "Last Dir" and "Next Dir".
It would be nice to have the scrolling done with the mouse wheel, btw.

I get something similar. My verbatim multi card reader, works flawlessly
in all previous versions of Ubuntu and other distributions.
However, in Hardy it works fine... for some time. I leave my machine
constantly logged in, so after a few days, if I plug in the reader, it
shows up in the nautilus

Does this issue still exist with the final Hardy Heron 8.04 release?
The reason I ask is that is looks like the fec_mpc52xx driver is
enabled:

Could you please release this fix also for Ubuntu 8.04? Hardy is LTS
and thus the obvious choice for server installs. And server installs
won't be upgraded as often as user installs (I won't upgrade my server
to Intrepid).
