I guess this bug can be closed. The HD eventually failed, and may very well a
hardware issue and not an ubuntu issue (or, at least, i don't have any proof
that it is an ubuntu/kernel issue).

What happens if you change the "Library Structure" item in the
configuration? I believe by default when ripping CD's, it stores in the
hierarchy Artist/Album, but you can change that by going to
Edit>Preferences, then the 'Music' tab. You could change it to store by
album.

Just had this bug running Evolution 2.24.0 in Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid)
Beta, Linux Kernel 2.6.27-7-generic, and GNOME 2.24.0.

However on the 6110 - deleted ALL calendar items and then did the sync -
WORKED perfectly from PC to Phone. Also From phone to PC and back again.

I found something interesting. Ubuntu 8.10 beta IS able to automount
under the following condition.
1. Plug in a USB flash drive. Automount will fail.
2. Leave that drive plugged in.
3. Plug in a second USB flash drive. Automount will succeed!

I've experienced multiple system freezes when compiz is enabled, and when I
minimize a playing video, or switch to another window using the shift switcher.
I don't know if there are any reports like this one, I'm attaching my compiz
settings.

William, if one uses your "solution", pulseaudio gets installed back on
distribution-upgrade (or even when ubuntu-desktop is updated), so it
definitely is not the sound idea.

Going through the comments I couldn't help but notice that by not
including packages like these might free up some space on Desktop/Live
CD, though I don't know how much or how many are there in first place :
Packages most user may not need:
- splix : Driver for samsung laser printers
- min12xxw
The latest 2.6.27-7-generic (i386 now, in case that makes a difference)
kernel works better. I still get the error occurring but far less
frequently, even with a VM running, and when it does occur the system
recovers more quickly (it also seems to be buffering much less, which
might explain the fas
