Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Debian has in
gcc-4.2 and associated packages versioned 4.2.4-1ubuntu3 were moved to
hardy-updates on 2008.10.22. Intrepid looks to have gotten 4.2.4
versions of everything before that, closing all tasks.
I didn't see a related update for gcc-defaults go through, marking those
tasks invalid.

I am very sure. I've never had a problem with suspend on Intrepid. It's
always worked perfectly. After updating acpi-support it doesn't resume
properly after invoked from the power manager. I downgrade the package
and it works fine again.

Ubuntu better, but unfortunately I've been unable to reproduce your
issue on Ubuntu 8.10. Can you reproduce this issue with an Ubuntu LIVE
CD and report back if the problem still exists on Ubuntu 8.10 LIVE CD?
These are the steps
This bug is affecting me also. Ubuntu 8.10. amd64. latest nvidia (177?).
xinerama enabled quad-head. I was able to get out of it by pressing
alt-f7 and clicking. i also confirm that xev wasn't processing any mouse
events when moving the mouse around and clicking on the xev window.
