I have a hint about this issue. gnome-system-monitor is crashing only
when opening as user the "Filesystems" tab. Change the following key in
gconf and you'll be able to use at least the other tabs:
/apps/procman/current_tab. It is set to 3 per default (the "Filesystems"
tab). Change it to some val
The previous experience was with the Jaunty alpha-3 live-CD.
The daily 0203.1 live-CD (amd64) displays the same behaviour, and in a
much more simplified scenario. No use of LVM or encryption, just:

/dev/sda3 Linux swap ~4GB

It occurs under the following condition:
* resolution change to a lower resolution than that of the point in time
when compiz was started
Example:
compiz was started when system had a resolution of 1024x768
* switch to a lower resolution (eg. 800x600) crashes the Xserver

I think the only functionality that iw offers for Jaunty is the ability
to change wireless regulatory domains from the discovered or default
values. I expect that when the wireless extensions (WEXT) ioctl
interface is deprecated from the kernel, iw will be the only way to
control wireless settings
