Confirmed here too. I've been seeing this with VLC since the start of
the Jaunty development cycle but as I rarely use it didn't bother about
it. I then found that Skype suffered the same problem. I tried using
qtconfig-qt4 and it suffered the same.

I have since moved from Ubuntu to Mint because of a few lingering issues that I
got tired of trying to fix. If you want an OS that works 99% out of the box I
would try Mint. I know this isn't a fix as much as it is a work around but

I found this because I was search for "no MII transceivers", but my
problem is slightly different.
I have the same SiS900 onboard card, in lspci -vvnn, it shows the same

FYI I have both Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.6 and
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse 0.10.7-2.
So I guess that Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly brings functionnalities that

I believe I experienced the same thing with nautilus 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu4
on Jaunty. After the connection timed out, I tried to unmount the share
from the desktop but the desktop locked up and then I got this error:
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply.
Possible caus
I am running intrepid 32 bit with the same issue, I had it with gutsy as
well, I have updated fire fox, os versions, kernels and plugin versions,
to no avail, I have just ended up running opera when I need you tube and
such. It really is getting to me, very convinced on giving up,

Synaptic Package Manager asks for CD
CD is inserted
Synaptic error message: E: Failed to mount the cdrom
Because Synaptic is looking for the CD in /cdrom/
but Ubuntu 8.10 cdrom mount is /media/Ubuntu 8.10 i386/
So obviously Synaptic cannot mount the CD

please consider to test "ubuntu" dailies (not kubuntu) ... we switched
to "pixel" sized fonts by default in gnome now so they should be better
on high dpi screens.
Some apps have regressions from it, but the general gnome desktop and
most gtk apps should be fine if they dont do their own font hand
