This is not solved for ATI. I have an ATI 9600GT running the open
source driver (there is no proprietary driver for Jaunty) The System
goes into and out of S3 sleep once per session. AFter that, it tries to
go down and gets stuck on a blinking cursor or the video shuts off, but
won't come back u

This was due to /dev/md0 also having a raid superblock (must have been created
by accident). Removing the superblock fixed it.
I'd say it should at least drop to busybox because otherwise you're pretty lost
with finding the problem.

I agree. It has caused SERIOUS problems for me when I tried to solve it.
Ended up losing compiz for a while, then had to reset my profile (compiz
profile), then visual effects wouldn't get enabled :'(
Just upgrade the package please :)

I removed the fglrx driver. Booted in the recovery mode of the 2.6.28-11
kernel. installed the driver again using "apt-get upgrade". On the next
boot up it worked (I actually did so many things before but this made it
work).
