I have a external USB drive with 3 partitions on it: 1 FAT32 and 2 NTFS
The drive is mounted automatically but with no permissions on the ntfs-
partitions.
So far, so good, but the problem is the umount option in thunar:
After umounting one of the partions all the other are
Rubbish. How on earth can a software vendor fix that? If you want it
fixed, go and talk to your hardware vendor and ask them to case your

Actually after restarting the inspiron, I've lost sound again. Also
ever since I originally lost sound under jaunty I have had a really
annoying system beep that sounds like an electric shock and that isn't
controlled by the volume level. Any ideas where this beep came from and
how to get rid of

but still no break through.
At a closer look after all those updates, the issue seems to be reduced:
