Hi Kurt
Thanks for your reply.
Attached is /etc/X11/xorg.conf info. Doesn't seem to be much information.
As I am still very new to Ubuntu I have used the standard install for Ubuntu
and firefox, as in what came with the disc. I have not fiddled or activated any
desktop effects intentionally
Jim, sorry I thought I had updated this bug report, I must not have
submitted the update. I was successful in testing the i386 .deb you
provided. Is it now too late to go into the stable updates?

[jaunty] [wishlist] [patch] Support for Sony PlayTV USB vendor/product ids
I have been hit by this bug as well. It happens all the time when I run TORCS
on anything more than 800*600 resolution. Sometimes whole system hangs and
other times SYS key works. It also happens when I run googleearth (and open the
options dialog box).
8.10 was rock solid. I thought of
Yep I can confirm that I can reproduce the problem by just adding i915
to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and updating my initrd, drm needs to
load earlier than it does if you leave it out or else you get the drm
open problems and it falls back to swrast. It's fixed as of debian's
initramfs-tools
Same problem here on two out of two boxes. In uno case upgraded from
8.04 in another from 8.10. Both boxes using an Nvidia card.
I vote for high priority too.
Let me know if I can be of any help by providing any further information
you might be interested in.
Thanks.

I have the bug too. To recover i usually:
1. Connect to the frozen computer using SSH.
2. Run sudo pm-suspend
3. Enter my password.
4. Wake up the computer.
5. Press Control-Alt-F1
This gives you a text terminal.
Note that i have gdm disabled in this set up.

Thank you, sir, for your mail.
In addition to the clarification you gave, I need to know if somehow I could
proceed to install Ubuntu on my system despite the crashing of Ubiquity at
the fag end of the installation process. Yesterday I tried for the fourth
time, and Ubiquity crashed again...
