I assume you'd done a suspend/resume cycle when this appeared. The Oops
message which triggered this bug is actually a warning and indicative
that it took longer for you system to resume than anticipated:

Okay, I may have lost it when I changed the system to keep time with
Internet servers from the default manual mode. Setting it back to manual
fixed the issue. I then went in and set it back to using ntp and the fix
seems to have held.

I'm not able to test this any more as I no longer use a dial up

There's a lot of talk about this in many bug reports(#446412, #394273,
#286001), and as far as I can see, with kms enabled, gdm is the one switching
resolutions, xsplash is right, gdm messes it and then once it's done X returns
to the original res set at startup.

first off, geda is so cool! I'm using it in the faumachine project in
order to have a graphical circuit layout for a (then simulated)
