Ah, ok, I realized how I did it.
Panel size won't go below 23px *if* the gnome "Application font" is set
to default (10px)
If you change the font settings for "Application font" to 6px you can
get the panel size down to 16px (screenshot attached)

Sorry to say, but it looks like you've got a BIOS bug. Every Dell
laptop that is working with this can read the HW switch setting properly
and key off that (bit 16 of the query 1 raw outputs if you're keeping
track of dmesg's).

I can confirm this on a native machine installation as well. The Ubuntu
logo in the GDM display changes to the GNOME monitor icon and never
changes back after you uncheck the "enhance contrast" option too
(although the colours changed back, but only after a reboot).

Might want to try System => Preferences => Sound => Hardware => Profile
=> Analog Surround 4.0 Output (or something else). I only have 2x
speakers, but for some reason the settings that seem to be designed for

Reproduced the crash in karmic on cheese 2.28.0-0ubuntu1.
Problem still exists. Cheese still freezes when trying to record video.

A very similar problem one year ago (bug #290258, now fixed) was marked
as a High priority. Firefox is a very important application in the
Ubuntu Desktop, and its usability drops dramatically if it's deployed
untranslated.

With the latest updates to ubuntu 9.10, suspend no longer works. After a
resume, the screen shows a hatched pattern, and just sits there not
