As Sebastien Bacher said, un-checking the "GNOME Login Sound" in Startup
Application" or removing the line seems to work until you reopen the window and
see that the line is back.

The best theory that I have about this bug is that it's related to some
sort of failure in the NSS lookups for the current user, resulting in
the ticket cache permissions not being changed, but I can't entirely
reconcile this with the debugging messages you're seeing.

Hi Steve, I can confirm that for me it's now fixed (sorry, only rebooted
my laptop today).
I now get the plymouth splash correctly with the only remaining issue
being that it gets stuck at the point where it should ask me for my

Update: As a temporary thing, I opened up the cards of my contacts
with birthdays and anniversary and ticked/clicked them again. This is
so I can enter them as if they are new data.

I have random screen glitching and flashing on the eeepc 1005ha. There
is no specific pattern to the occurrences . I have not tried using an
external monitor. I also have experienced twice a black screen while
working. I cannot switch
I have this issue on JJ as well, running in a VMWare session. I have
Erik's same issue, wherin immediately upon the login screen appearing,
the OS will completely hang. Startx works fine. I get the same issue if
I run gdm via command line. On 2 occasions it has just simply worked
