so its a little stale after upstream did some refactoring. I've filed a

I've upgraded to kernel 2.6.32-17-generic and the freeze/glow
disappeared.
Instead, the brightness is blinking and I can see some horizontal white
lines filckering on the screen. But at least, it is not freezing
anymore.
(This is without the nomodeset option, still using the default kernel on
2.6.32-17-generic with nomodeset option : no problem, the bug
disappeared.
(but the boot is ugly ;-) )

You're right, this is odd behavior. Marking as low (work around exists)
and triaged. Once a release is officially released, we don't change the

rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in soup_message_set_first_party()

As suggested, booting to 2.6.32-14 doesn't show the problem. I expect
2.6.32-15 should work as well, but I usually had to reboot a couple of
times to not get plymouth to crash and get just a corrupted image at the
top of the screen at boot; and tried it a couple of time without
success.

I could easily configure the Huawei E620 usb modem to work in 9.04, but
cannot get it to work in either 9.10 or 10.04 Beta 1. It persistently
mounts as a 'read-only' storage device, however, lsusb lists it as a
E620 modem. I don't know whether it is a kernel issue re usb
