It appears to me that if I manually deregister a node, but leave it

I took a closer look at the slapd.postinst script, and I believe I see
what is causing this issue.
In the postinst_upgrade_configuration function, the script first
checks to see if the configuration info needs to be converted from
slapd.conf to slapd.d format, and if so it runs the slaptest
I also tried NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.15-pkg2.run and found that
problem went away.

In Jaunty on kernel 2.6.28-18-generic (and many prior) I was seeing this
issue sporadically. Sometimes it would do it for a month or two, then
boot normally for a month or two - the changes generally corresponded to
kernel updates or a re-install of fglrx, or possibly other packages
using dkms.

virtual terminal. When I attempt do so, the mouse pointer vanishes and

This happens to me also during normal usage without any kind of
suspend/resume actions. I installed 9.10 as an upgrade from 8.10
recently. When I had 8.10 installed on an EXT3 root partition, this
never happened. Hard drive smart status is healthy with no errors.

For me 8.66 has the same problem.
I'd suggest to leave a comment on the Dell website about this problem. I
did and they contacted me about this. So they seem to care. Hopefully if
enough people write they make AMD fix their ATI driver.

I don't know if it is a gdm issue - but I can't login into my system.
After I updated yestarday I went home and put my system to sleep. Today when I
came in to work I woke it up and was presented with the lock-screen input
password dialog. Numerous attempts to enter the password failed. I
