I have to say this does piss me off to no end. I spend the majority of
my day in apps that use Ctrl+y for redo (e.g. Firefox, Chrome, Eclipse,
etc.), so when I use gedit I always forget that it has a completely

Confirmed on an x86 Lucid installed two days before. The reason I wanted to
remove plymouth was its incompatibility with fglrx (proprietary Radeon driver
that I need).
Trying to remove plymouth results in about a half of the system nominated for
deletion, including Xorg, alsa, etc.

Whenever I start empathy, it starts fine. The main windows shows up and
the MeMenu changes to connected but empathy no longer shows its
notification icon. This means I have to open the main menu everytime I
want to open empathy window

Looks familiar, except this is the first install on this laptop so it has never
worked before. Mine is a Toshiba L505-ES5018 and I am using a Linksys E-1000
router. I have other computers running Mac OS-X, Win 7 and an old Compaq M-2000
on Ubuntu Karmic Koala. All work fine with the router.

I am experiencing the same problem on a dell mini 10v netbook (which
