I'm experiencing this issue myself often on two different machines. I
haven't noticed a pattern, but when reading the reports and looking at
my taskbar, I notice that there is no network-manager icon (there should
always be one, no?) but two volume controls, one of which is working.

we have Kernel 2.6.34.xx installed and via apt-get upgrade we installed the
latest driver for the nvidia card 9600 GT
but we can not start the visual effects at all and the nvidia driver is not
installed.

WD MyBook World II 4TB NAS which supports CIFS.

I tried to install the latest kernel after the first reboot.
Then further did updates and a few reboots.

I'm in the same situation as #27: upgraded phpldapadmin to
1.2.0.5-1ubuntu1.10.04.1, removed /etc/phpldapadmin/config.php, ran
dpkg-reconfigure phpldapadmin and got the same result.
My LDAP server was upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10, could that be part of the
problem? The phpldapadmin FAQ suggests that

I've got a simple solution for this problem: I've build a linux softraid
instead the fakeraid from the onboard chip. This brings me a lot of
pluses:
1. The PC boots faster because of the missing RAID-Bios-screen
2. The HDDs are working now with AHCI and can use their full performance
(NCQ etc)
Please add this patch. gzip has the -c option, but it just prints
everything to standard output, that is not enough.

Update on the issue:
Now startx also works with savage, I don't need to load savagefb
anymore.
So I installed xdm, and changed from kdm to xdm, and it worked.
So it's obviously an issue with KDM.
Also to note is the fact that the fatal error that sometimes appeared in
Xorg.0.log doesn't show
works for me
althought I have to say the template system is anoying.

2 Shiny new Dell 380s here at work (for me and the other SysAdmin) and
