Since nobody is paying attention to this bug, and it is still a problem

It's possible that my laptop has a hardware issue that Windows can
handle but Ubuntu can't. It doesn't seem right that Windows would do
better than Linux in any area ;-)

which was the closest mainline build I could see to the 2.6.32-22 build
lucid is using, and it is also affected, so it looks like this was an
upstream bug that got fixed somewhere between 2.6.32 and 2.6.35.

It is perhaps not a bug in Linux, but certainly a problem with Ubuntu:
If the system gains more memory, it should adjust the swap space
accordingly
Can you tell me if your system has an error in the logs for a GPU
lockup? Or another drm error?
Also, does your motherboard use the CPU to manage workload for the GPU?
Anything like this in there?
