I found what may lead to a solution: using vbetool instead of xset seems to
ignore input.

installed native 64bit 'square' from Adobe.

It seems that my problem was an old file in the /etc/modprobe.d/ dir different
from the one suggested in the other comments, but that anyway had some call to
psmouse.
For people like Richard that still have problem switching on SMHConfig, I
suggest to check all the file and comment-out/

I can confirm it's fixed... until Microsoft or Windows distributors call
their recovery partition another name.
It's a temporary fix.
BTW, it's not very fair to not cite me in the changelog as you've used part
(if not all) of my patch.
