I can confirm this. My system (Thinkpad T61) froze while updating. After
a reboot I finished the upgrade and I'm now having various issues:
1) System freezes during boot
2) X is not starting, have to stop/start gdm to make it work
3) System is freezing without apparent reason
4) X is crashing,

I appreciate the info, but I fear that discussion of end-user
workarounds may serve only to derail discussion of a real fix unless the
Wine developers really have no intention of working this issue.
As long as users struggle with the Wine+PulseAudio combination, users
will inevitably come here

It seems impossible to have tear-free video playback in Natty.
I tried pretty everithing in nvidia-setting and in compiz. I also set some
enviromental variable in .bashrc as suggested in some wikis.
But using Mutter instead of Compiz, it doesn't tear videos. So, I tried to
downgrade compiz to

eplugins are the way used in Evolution to extend the UI, so --disable-
eplugin disables all the plugins, not just evolution-rss. So, not sure
the problem is really evolution-rss. So can you start evolution with
--disable-eplugin so that it doesn't freeze, and then go to
Edit-Plugins in the menu
To make it quicker, in case it is really evolution-rss, first just
disable the evolution-rss eplugins (there are a few of them)

this is a two graphic cards, three monitors setup. I've been using this now for
many years with ubuntu.
After the update to ubuntu 11.04 the entire GUI experience is extremely slow
and lags. This behaviour even occurs with the 'ubuntu standard no
one more thing: the rendering of firefox also seems to drive my CPU
usage up:

In this case, the system will stay unresponsive for 5 seconds or so.

i am using maverick .. and when i set proxy settings... Systems Preference
Network Proxy..
Set proxy to Manual proxy..
example Http proxy: 10.0.2.2 port : 80
select Apply system wide to affect all... this will work already for USC..
it will write a line on /etc/apt/apt.conf
