Two weeks ago, I upgraded to 12.04. This broke hibernation completely - the
system did freeze with every hibernate attempt and my only choice left was to
forcibly power off.
A fresh 12.04 installation (kernel 3.2.0-24-generic-pae) didn't behave any
different.

I think Disk-Manager should not be black-listed any more. It has been
updated until recently (2011), works with all supported Ubuntu versions,
handles UUIDs, and works with no major problem.

For me the solution was to reduce swappiness to 10. I'have 8GB of ram,
after that no more freezes. Before xorg was eating about 4GB of ram and
only way to diagnose after freeze was to SSH to machine or reset.
Killing the xorg did nothing, also no crash logs nothing.

the cups-filters package solved the problem on my 12.04 install. Is
there a way for me to install this on my wife's 11.10 installation?
yes I think. I have not been able to reproduce the bug. All is OK now,
with original CUPS and also with your PPA. I have also tryed with both
connexion links.

This also solved the PDF printer issue on my 12.04 installation (Brother
printer). Bug 1005000, which I just marked as a duplicate. What's the
best way, if possible, to apply this patch to an 11.10 installation?

I just ran into this bug doing exactly what Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote
in the second comment, with a 12.04 LTS 32 bit version of Ubuntu (downloaded
Saturday the 26th of May 2012).
One of the duplicates contains the following in the description, I open it to
install Ubuntu and select
