Actually the libogg0 package came from another repository (trinity
desktop environment). After removing the repository from sources.list
and downgrading to the Ubuntu version of package libogg0 I could finally

We recently switched to using resolvconf (in 12.04) that should fix that
issue by properly managing /etc/resolv.conf merging/appending name
servers as needed.

Daniel, the difference from the bad kernel without and with headphones,
is that with headphones, besides the kernel muting the speakers, it
seems something set the 'Speaker Playback Volume' to 0. After you plug
the headphones with the bad kernel, can you go to alsamixer and raise
the Speaker

#3 I do not have any /etc/X11/xorg.conf the xorg log indicates that it uses
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d
The log indiates issues with modules not available, fglrx for instance but it
loads te radeon driver ok it seems.
I will attach the vlc -vv log and the xorg log.
