So I finally had to just wipe the netbook and install Ubuntu 10.10.4 .
The screen started freezing up again in 12.04. It is definitely
something to do with network-manager-gnome especially the wireless.

Same problem here with my intel irolake card. With static blur it only
ever shows the first blurred background it grabs. For example, if the
first time I open my dash is on my desktop, then my blurred wallpaper is
all the dash will ever show when I open it in the future.

active blur performance is still pretty poor on my intel ironlake hd
card. If I open the dash if I have a video playing everything takes a
ride to laggytown.
