Just did a fresh install of quantal daily 20120825. I had just rebooted after
fresh install on my HP G62 lpatop and it crashed jsut after entering my
credentials and before my desktop could completly load.

dependencies in Quantal, So the problem is certainly solved on this side

Just to confirm: upgrade to a more recent kernel fixes the problem: 3.5
in my case.
For others arriving at this page wanting a quick fix, I suggest that

There is still a Compiz/Unity bug as Ctrl+Alt+t works fine in GNOME
Shell.
In Unity I believe the Ctrl+Alt+t listed in
org.compiz.integrated.gschema.xml conflicts with the Ctrl+Alt+t I added
to gnome-settings-daemon. The integrated schemas are for those that
don't have a GNOME gsettings equivalent
Unsubscribing ubuntu-release, there doesn't appear to be anything here
for us any more.
