Just to confirm: upgrade to a more recent kernel fixes the problem: 3.5
in my case.
For others arriving at this page wanting a quick fix, I suggest that
using synaptic and the ppa may be easier than downloading the .deb files

RE: #3, The FindRightPackage link suggests this should be filed against
the kernel, but a search for kernel for the package field reports
too many matches, and anything else I can think of to enter as a
search term reports no matches. I'll have to leave this determination
to a triager.
