network access from a USB stick created with usb-creator-gtk -n. I
also notice that there are no linux-signed* packages on the live CD
install media, although grub2-signed (actually grub-efi-amd64-signed)

I have this problem with 12.10 Quantal 64 bit installed on my new
Toshiba Portege Z935-P390 via EFI boot: After resuming from the first
suspend after clean boot, the mute Fn key (Fn-esc) no longer works and
neither do the screen brightness Fn keys nor the WIFI on/off Fn key nor
the suspend to RAM
I actually had a pretty freshly installed Ubuntu. I also had separate
partitions for home, /usr/local etc so I finally just made a fresh install
and it's been working fine ever since.
I believe it was an interrupted update of some sort that broke my deb-
db.

Can't enter special characters in Dash search field
To manage
portmap 6.0.0-1ubuntu2.3 restarts correctly even with open connections.
However, when upgrading to portmap 6.0.0-1ubuntu2.3 from
6.0.0-1ubuntu2.2, portmap fails to restart if there's an open
connection. (Because the old version wasn't using SO_REUSEADDR, the new
version can't take over the port.)
the proper fix would be showing the option only if XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP
environment variable is unity
it does, try running XDG_CURRENT_DESTKOP= gnome-control-center
display, that setting is not displayed

Thanks, Christian, it confirms that LANGUAGE and LANG were updated as
expected.
As for the remaining problem (that ~/.pam_environment is ignored), can
you please add the line
session required pam_env.so
to the bottom of /etc/pam.d/common-session, and let us know if it makes
a difference.
