The easiest, and I mean *easiest*, way is to hack alps.c for the raw
input from the touchpad and then "xinput setprop" to tune the X11 cooked
input.
For brand-new alps touchpads that don't adhere to any of the known
protocols, this is not sufficien

I've tried on quantal (12.10) server and with the plymouth-dummy package
I could unlock using BOTH the passfifo method and using a keyboard on
site, attached to the machine. Did you followed the correct
instructions?:
1) dpkg -i plymouth-dummy_1.0_all.deb
2) apt-get remove plymouth
3)

Was also just hit by this one when installing Lubuntu. I was lucky

I do not believe this is a NetworkManager issue.
My interfaces file says:
