Verified this problem with 3.13.0-14-generic OS on a KVM guest running
on Power 8 and the issue is no more reproducible
I tried the mentioned scenarios like
- apt-get install perl*
- dio test run from LTP
Both scenarios were successfull with out any problem or error message in
dmesg

A few days ago, an report system problem window started popping up
when logging in. (No error window appeared when this problem first
occurred.) Because compiz wasn't running, I could not actually repor the
error.
Since compiz doesn't seem to be running, I tried logging in with
GNOME/metacity.

Thanks. I can check the 3.14rc1 kernel and see. I'll also be glad to
