Screen is black, no backlight, sleep LED flashing (as when corectly suspended).

It appears that you used manual partitioning and your disk is
partitioned using gpt, but you have neither a bios_grub, nor an efi

I have four printers:
An Epson Photo Stylus T50 with the gutenprint driver
An Epson Stylus T1110 with the gutenprint driver
A Samsung ML 1860 with the ULD Samsung Proprietary Driver
A Samsung ML 2160 wirh the ULD Samsung Proprietary Driver
Everything works fine when I try
This was being caused by a Yahoo account on my machine. Removing the
account and re-adding it fixed the problem.
The following fix worked for me:
