USB dd does not always work either. I used the command "dd
if=path/to/iso of=/dev/sdf and it creates the image just fine with no
errors. It also shows the complete & written counts. But when rebooting
my machine to USB drive, it does not load and says please choose the

I have been able to reproduce that a few times in a gnome-shell session
but it's not specific to any one task. It "crashed/froze" twice just
looking for logs and once again while launching Firefox. OTOH I can use
the classic session w/o a problem - in fact I'm streaming the nightly
news right now.

There is much problem with 1.4.0 with recent distro. If you dont need
feature from 1.4 you should stay with 1.3.
Version 1.4 is very different from 1.3 and many feature are not

I have this problem on ubuntu 14.04 LTS with baobab 3.8.2.
Baobab is telling me that a cifs-mounted directory is 182 GiB, while
Thunar reports the correct size of 55 GiB.

The external monitor connected to the dock doesn't get detected by
nouveau at all, so it doesn't occur in this form. This problem occurred
in Trusty as well. Before that I was using a different configuration,
so I don't know if it would have occurred. It looks like 331.113 is the
latest version
Perhaps oddly (perhaps not oddly at all) I decided to reboot and select
GNOME Classic rather than booting into the standard GNOME Shell and it
seems to work fine - no screen tearing or X-freezes under fairly heavy
use. So maybe nouveau itself is simply not capable of running GNOME
Shell.

There seemed to be some improvement in Ubuntu GNOME Utopic with the
amd64 version of 3.16.7-031607-generic, at least I was able to boot that
kernel w/o adding the nouveau.config=NvMSI=0 boot parameter, but then
after spending a couple of minutes fiddling around when I attempted
Ver similar/identical issue with my Acer Desktop System running Ubuntu 14.04
AMD64 dual screen with Nvidia driver ver 331.113.
Upgraded the kernel to 3.13.0-45 today (6 Feb 2015) and GUI (Gnome Desktop)
freezes after logon. Also 2nd screen appears to be be dead.

The similar crash in saucy was fixed in bug #1037357.
The trace service couldn't process this original report in order to get
