Actually, I just tested everything out again, and although the install

After installing the linux-generic-hwe-16.04-edge (comment #2) and
reboot, the 'uname -a' shows the kernel is 4.8.0-28-generic, and with
this kernel, I can't see any warnings in the dmesg and can't see "screen

This still affects Ubuntu 16.04.
I see that gnome-software shows the title as gedit rather than Text
Editor. That leads me to believe that there is a problem with the
.desktop files or the appstream info gedit is providing.
Maybe Unity is using a special value and that's why Unity shows Text
Edit

transitional dummy package. It can safely be removed.
It should be replaced by qml-module-io-thp-pyotherside.
You should be able to run 'apt-get purge pyotherside' without removing
