Note that there is a Ubuntu package of 4.12.1 available now
http://packages.ubuntu.com/zesty/xfce4-settings which can be installed
at least without dependency issues on Ubuntu 16.04.
The upstream commit that fixes the issue is here
Public bug reported:
cant istall ubuntu, and windows on my computer. only windows7 enterpries
64bit eng version works. any other version fail to install, at windows
install crashed at 2%.. ubuntu drop this fail now, and when i try to

This fixed worked for me in 12.04 on AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ with an
NVIDIA GeForce 6200 TurboCache GPU which requires a 304.xx driver.

Adrian, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel
4.8.0-30-generic to 4.8.0-32-generic in order to identify the last good
kernel commit, followed immediately by the first bad one. This will
allow for a more expedited analysis of the root cause of your issue.
