In my testing, only qemu-system-ppc version 1:2.6.1+dfsg-0ubuntu5.2
available in yakkety and the template to set -cpu POWER8NVL was needed
to resolve the issue. No kernel patches were necessary.

We're talking about the live/install media... throwing the image on a
USB drive and booting it, for trialling or installing the OS.

package tgt 1:1.0.63-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess
For me the phone hang if and when I turn the hotspot off. It doesn't
hang immediately, but in the minutes that follow. It's pretty reliable.
OTOH, if I switch to plane mode, and then back to normal mode, the
hotspot is turned off an my phone doesn't hang. That's also pretty
reliable.
