and finally have glanced at missing 'important' packages, like 'dkms,
tweaks, dconf' ...

I had the same problem.
I found out that meld already worked in some terminal, and then it was
suspended. So I found terminal with suspended meld in background and resume it.
After that meld began to work as always.
I think hard killing of "meld" processes may help too: `killall -9 meld`.

They are saying this issue can be fixed by rebuilding. Well, I've never
had to rebuild a package before, so I had a follow a bunch of hapzard
guides for doing so, and I believe I succeeded in doing so. Howev
with ideapad S10-2 noplymouth start process runs until tty1-login. After
that only blueish pixels appear at the upper edge of the screen. With
nomodeset edit in grub the netbook can be used. About 5(?) years ago
intel 945 had similar trouble with kernel.

I did a full 17.10 reinstall as last attempt.
I can confirm the following symptoms:
- When both 4k displays are connected to the docking (displayport MST), UI
login screen is already hanging (see earlier screenshot)
- When 1 x 4K display is connected it works. When connecting 2nd display
The issue appears to stem from the Main.layoutManager.hotCorners[] array being
empty when hot corners are disabled:
