With the English (US) layout active, the "Show Keyboard Layout" option
This seems to have fixed the issue on my Dell XPS 15 9560. Thanks!
However if I leave my headphones plugged in, the speakers are selected
after a reboot, but that's a separate issue...

or without the dock, and I wasn't even reaching grub. That's the big difference
here. If you lose the video after grub, than your problem is elsewhere, and my
suggestion is to boot without "quiet splash" on

I've switched back to the 5.4 kernel and have enabled the 'nomodeset'
parameter. The laptop has booted fine. I'll keep using it like this
and let you know if I see another hang on boot.
I've noticed that Wayland is no longer an option on the login screen. I

Thanks. Yes if the nouveau kernel driver is crashing then it's quite

I confirm the same issue.
This issue occurs after a kernel update from 4.15.0 to 5.3.0.51 and keeps up to
current kernel 5.3.0.53.
reset to Kernel 4.15.0 can solve the problem.
